AZ REACH Text Messaging Terms of Use

By opting in to or using the AZ REACH text messaging service, you agree to these Text Messaging Terms of Use.

These terms apply to text messages sent by or on behalf of AZ REACH, a program of the Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of the University of Arizona. References to “AZ REACH,” “we,” “our,” or “us” refer to the AZ REACH program.

Definitions

“Opting in,” “opt in,” and “opt-in” mean requesting, agreeing, enrolling, initiating a text conversation, or otherwise consenting to receive one or more text messages from AZ REACH.

“Text Messaging Service” means communications sent to or from a mobile telephone number using SMS, MMS, or successor messaging technologies.

Purpose of the Text Messaging Service

AZ REACH uses conversational text messaging to communicate with authorized healthcare professionals regarding active patient transfer-coordination requests.

Messages may include:

  • Confirmation that a request or response was received;
  • Requests for a callback;
  • Requests for facility availability or other operational information;
  • Updates concerning the status of an active transfer request; and
  • Other administrative communications necessary to coordinate AZ REACH services.

The Text Messaging Service is not used for advertising, fundraising, promotional campaigns, or unsolicited bulk messaging.

Text messaging is not a substitute for calling AZ REACH when immediate assistance is required. For immediate assistance, call 877-787-4329.

Consent to Text Messaging

You may opt in by:

  • Initiating a text-message conversation with AZ REACH; or
  • Providing verbal consent to an AZ REACH coordinator during a telephone conversation.

By opting in, you authorize AZ REACH to send conversational, case-specific text messages to the mobile number you provide. Consent applies only to communications associated with AZ REACH services and is not a condition of receiving those services.

When consent is provided verbally, the AZ REACH coordinator may document the date, time, mobile number, and method by which consent was obtained.

By consenting to receive text messages, you agree to these Text Messaging Terms of Use and acknowledge the University of Arizona Privacy Statement.

Protecting Patient Information

Standard SMS and MMS communications may not provide the same protections as secure clinical communication systems.

Do not include patient names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, diagnoses, photographs, documents, or other patient-identifying information in a text message to AZ REACH. An AZ REACH coordinator may direct you to an approved communication method when protected or sensitive information is required.

Healthcare professionals remain responsible for following their organization’s privacy, security, and patient-information policies.

Privacy

AZ REACH uses information provided through the Text Messaging Service to deliver and respond to messages, support transfer-coordination activities, document consent and opt-out requests, maintain operational records, and administer the service.

Information may be shared with telecommunications providers, technology vendors, and other service providers only as necessary to operate and support the Text Messaging Service and subject to applicable contractual, privacy, and security requirements.

Mobile telephone numbers, SMS opt-in information, and consent records will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

AZ REACH may disclose information when required by law, regulation, subpoena, court order, public-records requirement, or other lawful governmental request, or when necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of the University of Arizona or others.

For additional information, review the University of Arizona Privacy Statement.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies according to the needs of the active transfer-coordination request and the recipient’s interactions with AZ REACH.

Message and Data Charges

AZ REACH does not charge users for participating in the Text Messaging Service. Message and data rates may apply depending on the user’s wireless service plan. Users should contact their wireless carrier with questions about their plan.

Opting Out

You may stop receiving text messages from AZ REACH at any time by replying STOP, QUIT, END, REVOKE, OPT OUT, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE.

After an opt-out request is received, AZ REACH may send one final message confirming that the mobile number has been unsubscribed. No additional text messages will be sent unless the user subsequently provides new consent.

Opting out of text messages does not prevent a healthcare professional from contacting AZ REACH by telephone and does not affect eligibility to receive AZ REACH services.
